Seen this trending on The Times website this morning.

An interesting article on how calorie counting is not the optimal approach when trying to lose weight.

It was based around a dieting study they did on people.

The conclusion was pretty interesting:

“I think one place we go wrong is telling people

to figure out how many calories they eat

and then telling them to cut back on 500 calories,

which makes them miserable,” he said.

“We really need to focus on that foundational diet,

which is more vegetables, more whole foods,

less added sugar and less refined grains.”

So While I would 100% agree with that,

the harsh reality is no matter how good quality the food you eat is

if you consume too many calories you’ll struggle to lose weight.

It’s why I ask the lads in BPD to do the following on a daily basis:

Watch their calories

Consume a decent amount of protein

Eat a min of 5 potions of fruit & veg

Drink a min of 2 litres of water.

That way your calories are in check

and so is the quality of the food you eat.

Plus it also leaves some room for some fun stuff : )
